I don't not like the guy.. but you gotta admit some of his ideas are crazzzzy.
Crazy to the point of not being realistic. It's a great idea, though.

I would just like to say our current selection of presidential hopefuls sucks balls. I'll take Ron Paul over Obama or McCain.

no expert in his policies, but i'll give it a shot.
no income tax?
okay, how do we migrate to that sort of a system? Oh, what about all the government employees that will lose their jobs, pensions, benefits, etc.
Sure its a grand idea, but how's that gonna work, realistically?

State tax... state based services.
The federal government and many programs are cut drastically... the whole idea is less government, not more. Local governments look after there citizens.
The federal government taxes the state for necessary services. The state's via congress decide what those are services are.
Federal jobs become state jobs.

Hmm.
Yeah, that sounds great! We can even change the name of the country
United States of America is now
States of America
Then the next thing we will see is California become its own country.
riiiight.
It would be funny though. Because if i commit a crime, and run across state lines I should be a-ok.

Why? Nothing changes in any way that will impact people negatively. We just restore power to the people. Instead of Federal officials who currently maintain zero accountability for any actions we have local officials. If Bob from the local congress votes to cut school funding I can visit him at his office, drive by his home, consult my fellow citizens who are also directly impacted and propose to have a new official elected who is like minded.
Accountability is the key. You federalize programs and you lose ALL transparency.
That being said... this is the way the this country, the "United States of America" is suppose to be as laid out by our founders. Do you deny that the founders intended for the states (the people) to have the power and not the federal government?

No, I don't deny that is how the founding fathers intended. But that was 13 colonies, all on the eastern seaboard. The nation is much larger now, and complete state governance is a bit silly.
a quote from west wing:
"There are times when we're fifty states and there are times when we're one country, and have national needs. And the way I know this is that Florida didn't fight Germany in World War II or establish civil rights. You think states should do the governing wall-to-wall. That's a perfectly valid opinion. But your state of Florida got $12.6 billion in federal money last year - from Nebraskans, and Virginians, and New Yorkers, and Alaskans, with their Eskimo poetry. 12.6 out of a state budget of $50 billion. I'm supposed to be using this time for a question, so here it is: Can we have it back, please? "

Good quote.
It's not complete state governance. The federal government maintains the power allocated to it by the constitution.
Also, many major roles, like the Military are still handled by the federal government.
I know, I like that... but it's not enough, not enough by far.

I'm a huge ron paul supporter. That being said, there is a forum for this stuff guys =P
You know, our country was like that for 120 years before federal income tax was made legal with a constitutional amendment. Why was it made an amendment? Because the supreme court ruled it as unconstitutional.
The federal government was supported by tariffs and it had to sell bonds and levie a special tax if it wants to fight a war. That "federal excise tax" on your telephone bill until just a few years ago? It was to fund the Spanish-American War...in 1898. After 100+ years, the temperary tax was eliminated.
The federal government used to run a yearly surplus when it collected only tariffs. The growth came after federal income tax was made legal. It balooned during FDR. It's growth became exponential under LBJ.
Just a little historical trivia.
Trust me. I know what I am doing.
