My buddy is a big nikon guy, I'll ask him what he recommends for photography books.

I got my wife a rebel xsi this last march and just started getting into photography myself, mainly due to just going to new zealand. The landscape there is down right amazing. I am looking at the canon 50d myself, but not gonna let myself buy one until i get better with the xsi....

d40 is a great starter camera, in fact I almost purchased one.

When I get off work, I'll see if I have any hawt pdf's for ya.

Just keep in mind, all your monies now will be spent on glass.

    I upgraded a few weeks ago to a Canon 40D ( I began with a Digital Rebel)

    Now I want a 70-200mm F2.8 L series lens...

I posted this another forum, but I will re-iterate that I highly recommend "Understanding Exposure: How to Shoot Great Photographs with a Film or Digital Camera" by Bryan Peterson. It's a great book whether a novice, amatuer, or pro. Any idea what kind of photography you want to get into? IF it's general snapshots then a good small zoom is good. You will find different lenses work for different situations (telephoto for sports, wide angle for landscapes and architecture, etc...). It's great that you are starting with the D40..it's simple enough, yet takes great photos. some sites for good information are:

-http://www.dpreview.com Good all around site with reviews and tons of forum help
-http://www.fredmiranda.com another good site with a lot of great tips.
    -http://www.luminous-landscape.com/ very informative..some good reads.

There are other great sites too...tons of info out there! I just recently started a dump site for most of my photos check them out if you like! ----> http://artisticsoup.smugmug.com/

I just picked up the Canon EF f/2.8 100mm macro usm lens. I just took it out and busted out some quick pictures. I am new to macro and this lens, so suck it if you dont like the pics :)
