Read the reviews... Intel, to my knowledge, is still way out performing AMD.
    Computer Specs:
    Intel Core i7 930 2.8 GHz @ 4.0GHz
    1. BCLK @ 200
    2. 1.33V
    3. Thermalright Rev C. - idle @ 35c, burn-in @ 72c

    ASUS P6T V2 Deluxe
    Corsair DDR3 PC1600 2GB x 3
eVGA GeForce GTX 465 Core 352 x2 SLI
    2x OCZ 60GB SSD @ RAID 0 (Stripe)
    Silverstone TJ10

Well, with that sort of reasoning I would be happy to comment...

I think anyone on these boards will tell you to get a intel chip. And if you want the most bad ass chip I'd go with the core i7 or wait for the Nahlaem.

Video cards, I would go with the 1gig 4870. or get just 1 4870x2 or if you have a lot to spend get 2! lol

The amd xp processors a few years ago were the shit. But times change and now that intel has the c2d and q4 they are leading in performance. Gotta go for the best bang for your buck.

gtx280 not even worth the money and the 4870x2 is better. (x2 probably isn't worth it either. lol)

If your not going to run a 64 bit OS don't bother buying more than 2 GB or ram.

Yeah, the Phenom is outclassed by latest intel chips.

The 965 i7 (granted, it's $1k...) is 2.6 TIMES faster than the Phenom. The other i7s clock for clock are supposedly ~25% faster than the corresponding core2 chip (this info from Tom's HWG).

They start at $284, it's $100 more than the Phenom and will blow it away. The ATI 4870 is a good card, but the GTX is about the same performance so I'd look for the best deals.

If you go with the i7, get 3gb Tri-channel RAM for 32bit OS, or 6gb Tri-channel for 64bit OS.

If it means anything... I hate my 9800GT... but I hate nvidia's shitty drivers (oh how the tides can change)

But I have to agree with the intel thing... love my core 2 quad!

just bought the g/f a Gateway refurb Amd x2 machine ($250 and it came with vista home premium!!) I have to admit it's no slouch, so I dont think a phenom system is gonna be anywhere near being crappy.

It isn't that it's crappy, it's just not a cost effective alternative IMO.

If it was decent and WAY cheaper it would be one thing, but you can pick up a core 2 or Q6600 or something for the same price.

I have had great experience with my dual 8800GTs, but I'd be tempted to go ATI with the latest cards. Drivers are hit and miss, some are great, some cause huge probs ;(

First of all i7 core is nehalam.

I just got it, new mb, gx280 x2 sli. will tell you how it runs after a while.

xp will take up to 4 megs of ram but doesn't seem to work well with more than 3. 64bit is better. Vista is required for sli 3+.

you also need to think about power supply. I got a 1000watt.

toms hardware is a good resource. read up.

this is why we suggest pre-builts

Dell EPP: Studio XPS Desktop Intel Core i7 Quad Core 2.66 GHz, 4GB DDR3, 500GB HDD, 256MB Radeon HD3650, DVDRW, 23" Full HD LCD, Vista Premium x64 $959 Or $922

seriously how can you beat that price yourself? you can't.

I thought the Nahalam isn't due till 1st quarter of 2009? And that it was going to have 8 physical cores? Am I high again?

I agree with sliv, dell is killing the market on computers.

EDIT: Turns out Nahalem is just the architecture. So I am high.
