why would anyone want to use a RC OS unless they are a developer?

Well it's stable for most people, its new, its an upgrade over previous OSs, it's free... why not?

Personally what I look for in an OS is stability. If that is a question, then there's no fucking way I'm going to jeopardize what I have unless I absolutely have to.

I've had more system crashes with released operating systems than with RCs. If you are that anal about stability then I'm sure you are keeping a live backup of your important files in which case it wouldn't matter. Plus when most people clean install a new OS it causes them to backup their data (which most people dont do) and filter out all the junk they don't need which increases security, stability and speed

    but, to each their own

The RC (and even the beta versions before) are very stable.

How much stabler is this than the first Longhorn releases, I had a TERRIBLE time with those.

I'll download it and install it just to see what the fuss is all about.
Trust me. I know what I am doing.

I love the Win7 RC, runs fast and stable, for the most part.

The weird issue Ive had is this, I installed it the first time, ran for a few days, and then the system drive died, could not do a repair or see it on another PC. Replaced it with another drive (different model), reinstalled, lasted 2 days, and same result.

Im convinced I had 2 drives ready to die, and it was just a weird coincidence. Just curious if you guys have had any funny issues.

Ive been running vista on the same machine with the first drive for a good 9 months or so, and never an issue. So it doesnt seem likely to me than an OS can kill a hard drive.

Im gonna get a fresh HD and see what happens.

    any thoughts?
