    C&R rifles (and handguns)

Any of you enjoy shooting these old military equipment? Mosin-Nagant rifles? Schmidt-Rubin K31 rifles? Various different types of Mauser rifles? Tokarev pistols? Nagant revolvers?

I just realized that I don't have a single bolt action gun. Think about getting one. I like the Mosin rifle. Guns are cheap. Ammo is cheap. But everyone has one already.

Then I thought about getting a Mauser. Guns are more expensive. Ammo is more expensive. But they are in better shape than the Mosins.

And then I saw the K31. They are quite expensive. Ammo is even more so. But the straight pull is kinda novel and not everyone has one. Then again the parts are scarce and expensive.

Anyone has one of these around here?
Trust me. I know what I am doing.

I heard Big 5 has decent and CHEAP Mosins here and there. Inspect them before you buy them. Make sure the rifiling is still crisp and the over all quality is decent and not banged up.

I'd love to get me an old Mosin or Garand.

I have a re-built Garand that I bought for $500. It has no collector's value but is damn accurate (new receiver, new gas tube, new barrel). My friend sighted it in with a 1" group at 200 yards using his own hand loads. I replaced the stock for $130 because the original stock probably went through 3 wars and 40 years worth of sentry duties.

Fortunately for me I don't need to go to Big 5 for Mosins. I can mail order them.
Trust me. I know what I am doing.

    Depends on the grade.

I think the lowest grade Mosin 91/30 was $60 or $70. An excellent grade Mosin 38 carbine was $160. An excellent grade Mosin 44 was $150.

I want a Mosin 38. It's handier than a 91 and doesn't have that annoying folding bayonet that alters the ballistics of the rifle. Unfortunately I heard most arsenal refinished M38s have M44 stock with no bayonet.

Garands are one of the most accurate rifles ever. And damn it is nice shooting one of those things.
Good ones are not cheap, and neither is the ammo. Cheap ones are expensive because you have to fix them anyway.

Stalker had an old Mauser once and while he was cleaning it he blew a hole in the roof cause it was loaded. I was asleep at the time and woke up thinking he had finally ended it. Walked in and there was this neat little hole in the ceiling.

Always open the action to check before cleaning.

And I always laughed at the warning you see in every manual that says to make sure the gun is unloaded before cleaning it.
